We love Science!
During our recent 'We Love Larkspur' day one the the sessions undertaken by groups was Science.
The session began with a bang with a quick experiment using diet coke and mentos:
Slime
Next using three simple ingredients of cornflour, water and food colouring (optional) we made our own slime. It was amazing!! We explored how it felt runny when held or touched gently but turned solid when we applied pressure.
Lava Lamps
The lava lamp experiment was super cool! The children (and parents) loved exploring the coloured water and oil, but a surprise ingredient made this science activity even more exciting!
The Leakproof Bag
Polymer chains work together to prevent water from leaking out of a bag.
Who would have ever thought that a plastic bag, some water, and a few pencils would have children (and adults) screaming with fear? During this experiment we looked at how to poke holes in a plastic bag filled with water without spilling a drop. Well, that’s the theory we tested. . . It’s a cool way to learn about the chemistry of polymers.
Skittles Rainbow
We placed the skittles onto a white plate. Then we carefully poured water onto the plate, making sure the skittles didn't move. Next we sat back and watched the science happened.
