This involves encouraging children to link sounds and letters and to begin to read and write. Children must be given access to a wide range of reading materials (books, poems, and other written materials) to ignite their interest.
Every Friday the children get to vote for the book they would like to hear at the end of the day. This week there was a choice between The Gruffalo and Dear Zoo. The children put a cube in the pot next to the book they wanted. We had a final count and Dear Zoo was a clear winner!
This term we are learning all about the Traditional Tale 'The Little Red Hen'.
The children have enjoyed listening to the story with puppets and acting it out with character masks.
