Larkspur Community Primary School

Growing Towards Tomorrow

International School Award

We have been awarded the International Schools Award 2013 - 2016.  We have been accredited for outstanding development of the international dimension in the curriculum.

We are very happy with this and hope to continue it in the future.

During our time doing the international schools award we have been able to open a window onto other cultures and bring the world to our classrooms.  We have formed a partnership with schools overseas to teach our pupils about life in other countries and have developed them as global citizens.

We have been a big part of the Comenius Project, Connecting Classrooms, and are currently working with a school in The Gambia.

We had a wonderful day.

Comenius

We joined the Comenius Programme in 2011 starting off in Poland followed by Hungary, Spain, Greece and Italy.  During our visit we looked around several primary schools in the region, sampled local food and were shown the local towns and landmarks. We soon come to realise how lucky we are in our school having an abundance of resources and computers available at anytime.  Our turn came in April when we received the visitors here at Larkspur.  The children were very excited and had numerous questions to ask.  The visit was a roaring success, the children put on a fabulous performance of song and dance and even got the visitors on the floor to Wii Dance.

Connecting Classrooms

We have been involved with Connecting Classrooms.

Some of our staff went, with other Gateshead school staff, to India and visited schools.

Mrs Smailes and Mrs Knox went from our school.  They took lots of photographs which you can see in the slideshow.

We then had visitors from India in our school.

We compared what we do and what they do.  Our learning is very different to their learning.

We look forward to continuing our connections with India.
