Growing Towards Tomorrow

Drama Opportunities

Northern Stage Follow Up Workshop with 'Fuel theatre' company

Year 5/6 children took part in a workshop alongside Tearlach (NWN) and Dami (Fuel Theatre) where they considered their own passions and ideas.  They designed and painted a series of placards that shared their beliefs and passions with the rest of their peers.  They even enjoyed a mini protest, vocalising their ideas and waving their posters.

Visit to Northern Stage Protest Production

Pupils enjoyed a visit to Northern Stage theatre where they enjoyed a viewing of 'Protest' alongside their parents and carers.  Funded through New Writing North, the pupils immersed themselves in this modern, thought provoking play.

Running is Alice’s happy place. She’s the best runner at her school and can outrun everyone, even the boys…but she’s struggling to prove her worth.

Jade is being tested. Racist bullying and history classes that tell a one-sided story sets her on a mission to find out about her heritage and those who came before her.

Meanwhile, litter is piling up in the local forest. All over the world an environmental crisis is looming, the threat of disorder and division is growing.  Chloe is determined to make a change, starting with the town.

Three girls prepare to challenge the status quo and tackle injustices in this new play exploring the power of friendship, activism and believing in your own voice.

Monday's Child

On Monday 14th March our pupils were treated to an amazing performance titled 'Monday's Child'.  This very entertaining play, performed in the round, brought our children's emotions alive with tears of both happiness and sadness for many.  The moving story of a little girl and an older friend took the children on a journey through the ups and downs of dementia and how moments of nostalgia and joy can still be had even when the memory begins to fade.

Visit to Live Tales

Pupils from Year 5 and Year 6 visited Live Tales theatre on Newcastle Quayside.  Here they met a series of creative practitioners who helped them create their own exciting story using whole class ideas.  Whilst the children worked on their story, an illustrator created some pictures to sit alongside their work.  Having the opportunity to write freely and create a collaborative story gave pupils greater insight into story writing techniques and how their ideas, however small should be noted and explored.  Children demonstrated greater confidence in sharing their character and setting ideas and were very proud of their final story.

New Writing North Drama Club

Pupils from year 5 and 6 have the opportunity to develop they acting skills with the support of Laura (a writer) and Amelia (a poet) from NWN.  They meet every week to explore the art of performance and follow the children's interests in developing their confidence through role play, drama games and performance.  We look forward to seeing what the children have developed at the end of the project.
