A Curriculum Vision Statement of Intent for Geography

Learning for Life

At the heart of our Geography curriculum lies a commitment to fostering a lifelong love of learning. We believe that geography is not just a subject; it is a lens through which students can explore and understand the world around them. Our curriculum is designed to ignite curiosity and inspire students to engage with their environment, encouraging them to ask questions and seek answers. Through a rich blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experiences, we aim to equip our learners with the skills necessary to navigate an increasingly complex world.

We provide opportunities for students to connect with their local communities and the global landscape, promoting an understanding of diverse cultures, economies, and ecosystems. By integrating fieldwork and real-world applications into our lessons, we empower students to apply their knowledge in meaningful ways. This hands-on approach not only enhances their geographical skills but also nurtures critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities that are essential for success in life beyond the classroom.

Believe You Can

We foster a culture of belief and resilience within our Geography curriculum. We encourage our students to embrace challenges and view mistakes as valuable learning opportunities. By cultivating a growth mindset, we help students understand that their abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work. Our teaching strategies are designed to support every learner, ensuring that all students feel capable of achieving their goals.

We celebrate the unique strengths of each student, recognising that everyone has something valuable to contribute. Our differentiated learning approaches cater to various learning styles and paces, allowing students to thrive in an inclusive environment. By providing constructive feedback and celebrating progress, we instil confidence in our learners, motivating them to take ownership of their education and believe in their potential to make a difference in the world.

Everyone Belongs

Inclusivity is a fundamental principle of our Geography curriculum. We are committed to creating a welcoming environment where every student feels valued and respected. Our curriculum reflects the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our learners, ensuring that all voices are heard and represented. We actively promote understanding and empathy, encouraging students to appreciate different perspectives and cultures.

Through collaborative projects and group activities, we foster a sense of community and belonging among our students. We believe that learning is enhanced when students work together, share ideas, and support one another. By cultivating positive relationships and encouraging teamwork, we prepare our students to be compassionate global citizens who appreciate the interconnectedness of our world. In summary, our Geography curriculum vision statement of intent is rooted in the principles of lifelong learning, belief in oneself, and inclusivity. We are dedicated to providing an enriching educational experience that empowers our students to explore, understand, and engage with the world around them. Together, we will nurture a generation of informed, confident, and compassionate individuals ready to tackle the challenges of the future

Geography Overview

Year 1&2 have been learning about local landmarks. We looked at lots of different landmarks from our local area and made posters of the ones we liked the most. We used some images for inspiration.
