Tyne and Wear Fire Service
Fire Safety
Elm class were lucky to have two visitors from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue - Tara and Graham. Children completed a fire safety workshop and looked through hazards in the house and how we can avoid potential fires.
We discussed why we have smoke alarms in our houses and how these can keep up safe. Children shared lots of great ideas about keeping safe in their homes and what to do if they notice a fire. They made an escape plan in case of an emergency.
NSPCC Workshop
As part of the ‘Speak out, stay safe’ campaign, children took part in an NSPCC workshop. Children discussed their rights to be safe, how to contact the NSPCC and who might be a trusted adult in their situation.
We worked through a range of statements and talked about whether each statement was safe or not, and what we should do in that situation.
This morning, Year 5 took part in a workshop with Nick the Chef from Cooking 4 Life. We learnt how important exercise and a balanced diet are to living a long and healthy life. After taking part in a fitness challenge, some of us had the chance to support Chef in making a delicious spaghetti bolognese that was loaded with nutritious vegetables.
We explored what calories are and the effects of consuming excessive amounts of them on our bodies. We examined the Eatwell balanced plate in detail.
